History and Travel: Why They Matter

Sea of Galilee

Also known as Lake Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee is a popular tourist spot. The area is known for its natural beauty, but also for the historical sites that are found along its shores.

The old city of Jerusalem attracts thousands of pilgrims per year. Three of the world’s religions honor the City, and the various locales referenced in the Bible are points of pilgrimage to many religious pilgrims.  These areas are deemed the holiest for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam: The Temple Mount, the Wailing Wall, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

The Mount of Olives

The Mount of Olives is one of three mountains near the City of Jerusalem in the Kidron Valley.  The Mount has been used as a Jewish cemetery for thousands of years, and it has been a holy site for Christians all over the world.
